Senior and Cadet ONAKAI Irish National Championships 2016

A large number of competitors gathered from around the Country to compete at the Irish National Karate Championships being run by ONAKAI the National Governing Body of Karate in Ireland.

ONAKAI is recognised by the Irish Sports Council and the only Irish Governing Body accepted and recognised by EKF (European Karate Federation) and WKF (World Karate Federation) of its competitors to compete at the highest levels of World karate.

The National championships were held at Tallaght Sports and Leisure Complex. Kicking off proceedings was veteran male and female kata and Senior and cadet kata events followed by the kumite events for a host of age and weight categories.

WSKF member entries into the competition reflected generally an increase in competitor numbers attending the competition which made for more diverse and representative results.

Congratulations to all WSKF members who trained, travelled and participated at the championships.

Veteran Ladies Kumite Medalists - ONAKAI Senior Championships 2016

Medal results on the day were fantastic – the success of those results was confirmed in the early evening by ONAKAI naming WSKF Ireland as topping the National medal table for 2016. This is a great achievement for this association.

An emotional Nicole Perry was presented with the Christopher Nugent perpetual cup for the most spirited competitor of the day.

A good result for WSKF on the day. Ireland's Chief Instructor was pleased with the levels of performances and is looking towards the ONAKAI Junior National Championships later in the year.
