Hitoshi Kasuya
Sensei Hitoshi Kasuya, 9th Dan is the Chief Instructor of WSKF and one of the leading Shotokan karate instructors in the world. He has an impressive tournament career in the JKA, SKIF and IAKF championships. He emphasizes budo karate, ikken hissatsu rotational dynamics with a thinking, analytical approach to Shotokan karate.
Sensei Kasuya’s specialty is his unique teaching method, scientific approach and dynamic technical skill and is world renowned for his signatory techniques for rotational dynamic movements.
Kasuya Sensei was born February 23, 1948 and graduated from the JKA (Japanese Karate Association) Kenshusei in 1973. As a student at Hosei University (Tokyo), he distinguished himself in the Karate Club and captained the University Karate Team and was a former protégé of Nakayama Sensei.
As an instructor of the JKA, he began to establish the foundation for his future as one of the most distinguished teachers of Japanese karate, excelling in numerous international championships. Between 1975 and 1977- as part of the kata and kumite team - his team won both the kumite and kata events in the IAKF Championships held in the USA, the Asia Pacific Championships held in Hong Kong and the Iake Team kumite and kata held in Japan.
1980 saw his selection as a member of the Japanese national team to compete in the 5th WUKO Championship in Spain. Kasuya Sensei was reassessing his future career in the JKA, when he learned that his Sempai (Senior Master) Kanazawa Sensei JKA was leaving the organization. He decided to follow him and assist in establishing the organization SKI. In 1982 having kept his position in the Japanese national team, he competed at the 6th WUKO Championships in Taiwan.
1983 saw the 1st SKIF World Championship held in Japan. Kasuya Sensei, won the Individual Kata and was a member of the winning Kumite team event. During the 2nd SKIF World Championship in Japan, he won the Individual Kumite.
1990 saw the establishment of the World Federation of Shotokan Karate-Do. The WSKF was established in Ireland in 1997 and Sensei Kasuya is a regular and honoured visitor to our country.
